I went out into the rain and the wind and rang Kate, which is what I always do when I don’t know what to do. Kate said: you want to make dan dan noodles.
She said a lot of other soothing things: you will have forgotten this by this time next year; we are all here; we will figure it out. But the main thing, obviously, was the recipe for dan dan noodles, or something vaguely like dan dan noodles: something like sausage pasta, big comfortable sausage pasta, but with soft swirls of tahini to carry us home (dairy-free!) and big deep soy to give us heft, and high-hat punchy chilli and garlic and Szechuan pepper— to give us a bit of momentum.
I am lacking momentum! And yet! Life must happen and so must dinner.
So here’s where we’re at, kittens: we’re emailing our therapists for back-to-school appointments, we’re starting Day 1 of the new Adriene even though it’s basically the end b/c it’s never too late, and we’re making something wholesome.
