Yesterday I found out that the Welsh word for July, Gorffennaf, means “end-of-summer”. And now July is over, and it feels a little like the summer is too. I saw dead leaves yesterday. Every night this week I have been making toasty things and warm things and spiced things like it’s already time for that. Corn-cob broth, slow-cooked barbacoa, this caramelised cumin brown-sugar cauliflower we can’t get enough of. Summer inflections, sure, but autumn thoughts. Autumn dreams.
