Saturday! Hello, friends. How has your week been?
Here’s how my week has been: I have woken up every morning since Tuesday under the deeply misplaced assumption that it was already Friday. Brutal. I got to like, 4pm on Wednesday under the illusion it was Friday night— I made pizza dough for Pizza Fridays, I planned a pub trip, etc. Anyway, it wasn’t, and there were still days to go.
So, yes, fair to say: I have been anticipating this weekend fervently.
Yesterday I got a £30 library fine for being a week late with my books, which is a very clear spiritual reminder of exactly the problem. Too much in my head! Too much, and fiscal and emotional penalties for everything!
I am writing a lot at the moment; and also trying to really cherish and cultivate my friendships because when you move away, even a little bit away, you have to both make new friends and put energy into maintaining old ones that matter to you very much; and also also, several of my best friends have had babies whom I would like to befriend, and be a good friend to also in turn; and also, be a good sister and good daughter and good granddaughter and good godmother and a good partner; and also be a person who has both a clean house and clean hair, and maybe also clean clothes that do not smell like they sat in the tumble drier for three days, and also not to use the tumble drier too often because it’s bad for the planet, and also to remember to recycle, even when that means taking all our glass bottles to a completely different set of bins, and also do we need to buy one of those instant composter things that our friends have, now that we live somewhere the council don’t take food waste? And for that, of course, I need money; which means I should try and chase another commission for some more work.
Basically, happy weekend! It’s Saturday, I am on the sofa under a duvet with Kate, and this week has felt exactly like this poem by Kenneth Koch.
